I know I know…

I’ve been busy, distracted, unpacking, trying to keep dust kitties under control witout a hoover.  I moved to a new flat the week before Christmas, then had a revolving door of guests until January.  Then I had a weeks holidays were I did blissfull nothingness (and some unpacking).  Then returned to work and promptly got sick.  I mean really sick.

Seems I still don’t have this immunity thing right for the Scottish Germs.  I won’t give you all the gory details but one infection lead to another and within 48 hrs my right eardrum ruptured.  When I went to the Drs he took one look at that and replied ‘oh ya, that’s a mess’.  In then discussing with him my medical history and how I’d only been in Scotland a little over 3 years he then chucked ‘you’re like a kid in nursery school for the first time, you are going to get EVERYTHING’.  Great.

Anyhoo the whole ruptured ear drum thing was really weird.  It brought home to me the understanding of stereo sound and spacial awareness.  When you can only hear out of your left ear, all sound comes from the left.  I’d have someone standing to my right and I’d look to the left because that’s where I heard the sound and thoght who ever was speaking was on that side.  Needless to say I was a bit worried out walking and was uber carefull to look both ways before stepping out onto the road as I couldn’t trust sount to tell me where traffic was coming from.

It’s taken 4 weeks but am about to 80% hearing in my right ear again.  Doc says its still inflammed, still a wee perferation and there is fluid but it seems to be healing the right way and I should be fine in another month.

I’m once again on a weeks holiday and not going anywhere.  There is a big trip to Russia coming up in 5 weeks so that’s taking all my spare cash.  But I don’t mind as I’ve got evenings planned catching up with friends and I want to do some more touristy things in the city (museums/galleries/exhibitions) as on the weekends I just always seem to run out of time.

Today the sun is shining and I’m meeting a friend for a walk-about with cameras in tow and a few pubs to stop at along the way.  It has begun to feel like spring with the crocuses and daffodils starting to sprout in the grass.  Since Sunday I’ve even put away the gortex/fleece combination and have switched to the hooded sweatshirt/jean jacket combo.  Although looking in the mirror I’m wondering if the jean jacket should be retired.  Looking a little dated I think.
